5 Winter Cleaning Hacks

Winter is here! It’s going to be cold outside and we’re gonna be indoors more often! So, think about it, it’s time to have everything cleaned and be ready, right? With that in mind, MS Cleaners thought about 5 smart hacks that will help you keep your house in good shape during the winter time.

1 – Wash and Disinfect Garbage Cans and Wastebaskets

You’re going to be locked in all winter with these germ, so now it’s a good time to clean them thoroughly. Take them outside where you can blast the insides with a garden hose, then add disinfectant.

Let them rest for an hour and wash it up. They’ll be ready for winter!

2 – Chimney Inspection

If your home has a chimney and you use the fireplace often in the cold weather, now is the time to get it inspected to make sure it’s free of any obstructions that can cause ventilation problems and present a fire hazard. Although it’s possible to clean smoke damage from a home, it’s a better idea to avoid it altogether with an inspection and cleaning.

3 – Clean Ceiling Fan Blades

Those big blades on your ceiling fan are great at moving air, but when they’re idle they’re big dust magnets — dust settles on the top surfaces where you can’t see it.

Clean it now! Take an old pillowcase and gently cover a blade. Pull it back slowly to remove the dust.

4 – Change Furnace Filters

Having a clean furnace filter is essential for proper function so change it now if you haven’t already. If it’s been a few years since you’ve had the system checked, consider doing so soon to avoid being without heat in the cold weather.

5 – Smoke/carbon monoxide detector batteries

Make sure your family is safe by changing the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. Fresh batteries ensure that you have an early warning of possible danger.
